THE SWHP RESCUE 6 THOROUGHBRED MARE'S AND FILLYS
On Sunday 20th January 2008 This Charity, The Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies, took into care 6 Thoroughbreds, four of which are registered, from an establishment where a 7 month old foal had died of neglect the night before. The owner had been offered help over a period of more than 8 months but had refused all offers of assistance, this despite the fact that he had been a former RSPCA Market Inspector he would have been well aware that he was causing unnecessary suffering.

Fortunately he was persuaded to sign ownership of the animals over to us here at the Horse Hospital and it is sincerely hoped that with dedicated nursing they will make a full recovery. Of critical importance are the two in foal mares.

The condition of all six is that they are extremely thin, two are emaciated, all have lice, a heavy worm burden is evident even before worming and they are covered in their own excrement.
UPDATE 13.05.08
All the Thoroughbreds are doing very well and we are pleased to advise that Napier Star has given birth to a beautiful, healthy, filly foal who we have called Coxstone Orchid. They are both doing very well, and Napier is proving to be an excellent mum.
