Hero - January 2011

HERO

This cob was rescued from a field in the Langston area on the 23rd January 2011.  It was very fortunate for him that the SWHP was at the field feeding some horses hay when he was discovered.  He was stuck in the gully of a stream in the water and his back legs were tangled in barbed wire making it impossible for him to get out.

The fire brigade was called and it took a total of 17 firemen and two rigs to rescue him.  The fire engines could not access the field but they managed to set up a winch system in the field to pull him out.  The fire brigade teams, one of which was from Barry,  were wonderful and did a fantastic job.

We were very worried about him as it was such a traumatic experience.  He was very tired, cold and wet and it took him a long time to come round, at one point it was thought he might not make it due to the shock.  However once he was warmed up and rubbed down, he managed to stand up and walk onto our trailer.

Just two days later here he is in the garden at Coxstone happily grazing - he is a very lucky horse to have been found and we are sure he will make a full recovery.
