Bluff
BLUFF
Bluff was brought to us on the evening of the 29th April 2011. We were called by a farmers wife who had found Bluff up on 'Hay Bluff' trying to suckle from mares and who was being kicked and in danger of being hurt, his mum could not be found and although he was very strong he needed to be helped immediately. We kept him for one night and fed him with the foal replacer milk we keep here for such emergencies. We called Joanna Varden of the National Foaling Bank to see whether she knew of a mare that had just lost it's foal to see if we could put the two together an she did. On Saturday morning 30th April Jenny arranged to meet a lady who had a 30" shetland mare who had just lost it's foal and a handover of Bluff took place on the M4 near Cirencester.

Initially the adoption was a success and the mare took to Bluff, but unfortunately 24 hours later the mare decided that she did not like Bluff any more, which is such a shame but it does happen in some cases. Bluff is now being kept company by sheep who are his new best friends, and he is being hand reared with foal replacer milk, which is being fed out of a bowl by the people who own the shetland mare. He is well and thriving which is wonderful news.
